Part I: Dr. Tayahi will discuss the development of a portable robust Plume Photogrammetry Testbed System (PPTS). The PPTS is a comprehensive tool capable of automatically generating a model of the plume morphology from digitized video images taken from an-eight-camera wireless network strategically distributed around the target. The collected video images are processed in real time to predict the plume time-dependant dispersion, volume, temperature distribution, and other parameters. In the interest of speed and accuracy, the model first provides rapid estimates of the sought parameters based on coarse numerical calculations and simplified physical models and later on, in-house developed algorithms are used to progressively refine the results.
Part II: Dr. Tayahi will discuss the future of wireless and wireline sensor networks and interfaces based on the latest fiber optic technology, polymer waveguides integrated with VCSEL sources and receivers, and high-speed electronics. These components provide very high levels of EMI immunity, high temperature operation, and high reliability in power electronics afforded by carbon nanotube based devices and optically activated power switches fabricated in wide bandgap semiconductors.
