The United States Air Force Academy is soliciting white papers/proposals for research under Section 1-Funding Opportunity Description (a)(1) Aeronautics (Aeronautics Research Center) and (a)(2) Aeronautics(High Performance Computing Research Center) of the Broad Agency Announcement USAFA-BAA-2015 posted on 17 December 2014 specifically for Research in Computational and Experimental Fluid Dynamics.
Specific research areas of interest include:
• Area of Interest 1: Computational simulations of aerodynamic configurations using Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) on DoD HPC resources.
o Design and develop computational meshes surrounding specific aerodynamic configurations.
o Design and implement computational aerodynamic models using the Kestrel flow solver.
o Quarterly or Annual reports of research results.
• Area of Interest 2: Aeronautical experiments of aerodynamic configurations using wind tunnels.
o Design and develop wind tunnel models in CAD suitable for fabrication on CNC mills/lathes and stero lithography equipment.
o Design and execution of wind tunnel experiments.
o Quarterly or Annual reports of research results.
• Area of Interest 3: Research and development of software methods, processes, tools and utilities to solve complex science and engineering problems using HPC resources.o Research methods to improve existing software to make them more efficient, scalable and maintainable.
o Research methods and software tools and utilities to efficiently use General Purpose Graphical Processing Units (GPGPUs) to solve computational science and engineering problems.
